The Blobfish

It's what's on the inside that counts

It didn't look real to me the first time, but it is. Because these fish are found under the ocean at about 800 meters, they are very rare. Their odd hunting technique and comedic facial features have given the fish a "lazy" stereotype. More info below.

Like said in the video, they have no muscles and simply float in water because of their gelatinous body. They are found off the coast of Australia and Tasmania. Unlike most deep sea fish they don't use a gas bladder to keep buoyant, probably because the gas would be too condensed at that extreme depth. Their meals may not be consistent but because they use almost no energy they are able to survive. The female fish will lay thousands of eggs and unlike most fish will stay with the eggs and may even sit on them. They are being accidentally caught by deep sea fishermen which is having a significant impact on their population and may lead to its extinction.
