Western Parotia

Even in Nature you need dance                     moves to impress women

Just like a peacock these male "birds of paradise" need to have colorful feathers to attract mates. They go a step further, however, and not only wear a costume but put on a performance with it. More info below.

The scientific name for this bird is Parotia selfilata. There are very different distinctions between males and females, like peacocks. Males are jet black with yellow-green breasts, a white head stripe, and three wire-like plumes extending off the back of head. Females are brown with barred underparts and black heads. Their diet consists mainly of fruit and arthropods. It’s only found in Indonesia. These birds are most well known for the male’s striking courtship display.
